Moogfest
By chance I managed to overlap my stay in Asheville with Moogfest, a diverse three day electronic music festival named after synth pioneer Bob Moog. I saw some bigger acts like Big Boi and MGMT, but it was the smaller artists that I’d never heard of that blew me away the most. Pictured is Lorn, a dubstep producer from Milwaukee who plays along the lines of Daedelus and Flying Lotus. Even though he’s a laptop producer, his stage presence was fantastic and he’d freak out and make possessed faces just before some crazy sample was about to drop. I met a fun group of kids at the festival that have made my stay in Asheville a memorable one.

Lorn played late in the night on Friday, October 29, 2010, the first night of Moogfest, at the Moogaplex in th Haywood Park Hotel ballroom in Asheville, North Carolina.

And so Moogfest, the three day electronic music festival held in Asheville, North Carolina this past weekend, ends. Its organizers claim that it will become an annual event, and the apparent success of this outing suggests that is the case.

We were on stage for the entire set of Girl Talk. Dancing for an hour and a half straight killlllls.
Onyx is in the pink sweater to the very left. And I’m in the blue sweater beside her.

If the extraordinary line outside of Asheville, North Carolina’s Sunny Point Cafe on the morning of Saturday, October 30, 2010, was any indication, many denizens of the three day Moogfest music festival sought refuge there after the event’s first night the evening beforehand. The photograph above, published (and presumably taken) by the Tumblr user allisonkgill on October 30, may have been taken at a less crowded time that day.
