Above, you’ll find a video of Lou Barlow (founding member of Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr, and Folk Implosion) playing the Sebadoh song “Soul and Fire” at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina on Friday, August 20, 2010. Barlow began solo and acoustic, then was joined by his backing band, The Missingmen, for a few songs. He then ended the show once again alone and acoustic. The previous night, he played a similar set at Cat’s Cradle (which the Triangle Music blog covered in detail here).
Wye Oak was the opening act.

Tonight, August 20, 2010, Lou Barlow plays The Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina. Above, you’ll find the video for “The Right,” the sixth track from his 2009 album, Goodnight Unknown. Barlow’s credibility as a lo-fi musician is immense; he was a founding member of Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, and The Folk Implosion.
The opening act is Wye Oak.
Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, alone and acoustic, performed “Fill Me with Your Light” at The Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. The song originally appeared on Clem Snide’s 2005 album, End of Love.
Prickly, and occasionally surly, Barzelay did not seem to appreciate requests shouted out from the audience. That said, one highlight of the show was his response to such a request: a performance of “Moment in the Sun,” the band’s 2001 song which served as the theme of the second season of the television series, “Ed.” Another fun moment: Barzelay covered Journey’s “Faithfully” (which he had previously done for The Onion A.V. Club’s Undercover Project).
Barzelay, billed as Clem Snide, was touring with Chris Otepka of The Heligoats, also alone and acoustic, who opened the show.
Alone and acoustic, Chris Otepka of The Heligoats played The Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. Alas, he did not play the lethargic and ethereal song, “You Win,” from the band’s most recent album, The End of All-Purpose. Would that he had done so.
The video for that song, featuring old school stop motion, is above.
On this tour, Otepka (billed as The Heligoats) opened for Eef Barzelay, the lead singer of Clem Snide, who was also playing alone and acoustic.
