What to think of the reboot of the DC Comics Universe, which officially begins this week with the release of Justice League #1 and continues throughout the month with 51 other new titles? The League of Melbotis remains skeptical, although I - a child of the 1980s who fondly remembers comic books from that era - am interpreting the reboot as an invitation to casual readers to return to the medium. We’ll see. However, the denser the DC Comics continuity became, the more the barrier to readership enlarged. Perhaps the reboot will permit those of us who remember the core traits of certain well known characters - but not the specifics of what they’ve been up to for the last two decades - to return to comic books and enjoy them as they are meant to be enjoyed.
